In the last 72 hours, the internet is flooded with news of a possible “World War 3” after the news that the US had killed Iran’s top general. The phrase “World War 3” was among the most trending topics in the world, with various posts on Twitter and Facebook.
I received a text early morning of my little brother who lives in Angola, wondering if I was doing fine because he is listening to the TV that the US and other countries are about to start a possible WW3.
I was glad that my little brother, who is only 17 years old, checked out his older brother’s safety. I replied, assuring that I am doing fine, and I appreciate your concern about my safety, and there is no WW3. He replied: but I learned the US is already starting to get ready for WW3 with Iran.
I felt that I had to assure my little brother that I am safe but to explain to him what a World War is and how much it takes to involve nations to start a global armed conflict.
How the media and some individuals exaggerate the facts over the internet, lead others to a false alarm, which can cause very negative consequences. For instance, my little brother is concerned with what he saw the television, triggered him not just to check if I am safe, but also to believe that there is a possibility of WW3 about to happen.
I blame this false alarm to those people that we see often on the TV wearing suits and ties with bifocal glass on his/her faces. I meant the panelists that are paid to talk and some of them with no fundaments or sense of responsibility. They say things to look smart or to gain attention.
To start WW3, you need more than two countries, you need a whole region, if not an entire continent coming together to go on war. You need to mobilize millions of people, you need trillions of dollars and probably have no brain, no heart, or compassion.
It is true the world today is way more equipped than a century ago, countries possess a more catastrophic weapon that can destroy a country or even a continent. However, it is also true that the current world leaders have a notion that to push a button to destroy a country with innocent people is beyond a moral sin but also an action that will cause an irreversible consequence.
I don’t believe there will be a WW3; countries can retaliate against each other, no necessarily using gunshots, bombs detonation, or drones but using economics sanctions, cyber-attacks, or espionage as a form of revenge or retaliation.
The planet we currently live in won’t get any better, in my view. However, I don’t believe there will be a third world war because there are still many people on this planet with common sense. Even though the number of those with no common sense is continually increasing today.
Again, there will be no WW3, there will be other consequences. There is an expression in Portuguese that says: “Quem tem cu tem medo.” essentially it means – Everyone deep down is afraid of something as brave as they try to seem. As everyone has ass, everybody is afraid.
Happy New Year to you!
