First-Ever MS Management: Information Technology Graduate:
Hello, my name is Nsundidi Jorge. I studied MS Management: Information Technology at SUNY Potsdam. For me, MS Management is a program with an array of technical courses such as Cybersecurity, Organizational Change, and Business Analysis process. I believe you learn a variety of problem-solving techniques in this program.
Outside of soft skills such as teamwork, communication skills, and organizational skills, I gained and learned research skills techniques, if you are interested in research. I learned about data analytics, like how to manipulate data and how to integrate those data. Lastly, one thing that I found very valuable is the ability to collaborate. This program teaches you how to collaborate; this is something that no matter where we go, it’s something that we will have to carry on our toolbelt.
I have two memorable moments during my time in this program. In Fall 2019, my teammate Shelsy and I pitched a research project on Online Learning – Interest and Perception. After a few meetings with advisors, we focused on SUNY Potsdam’s topic-specific to grad school. In the beginning, I was a little resistant to the idea, but as we progressed with research, I started to get more interested in the subject because it was a stimulant for me to see the direction my research was going. Fast forward ahead, we ended the research successfully.
In March 2020, the pandemic’s advent, I learned that our research served as useful information for SUNY Potsdam to move the MS Management program entirely online. Nevertheless, the program director encouraged me to do Needs Analysis as a project focusing on students’ and faculty’s needs to have this program fully online at SUNY Potsdam.
A second memorable moment was two months ago. In my Business Analysis, we talked about Workflow concepts. Not long after we discussed this topic in class, a friend of mine reached out to me from high school. He was talking to me about some of the frustration they were having at his job, which in mind, I immediately thought they were having a process information issue.
I began talking with my friend via Zoom, and while he was talking, I was drawing a workflow diagram that would help him solve his problem as he was talking. I inquired about questions that by the time I finished drawing, I had the solution for the situation he and his team were having. I wish I had the workflow diagram. These stories made me realize that it was worth joining this program because what I’m learning can be applied in real-world situations, which alone made me happy.
MS Management classes at SUNY Potsdam are small. This means that you receive more attention and personalized experiences with professors and the team. In this program, you have everyone available from the program director, advisor, and professors.
Second, this program is very flexible. Because of that, I believe that this program makes you the ideal candidate for a wide variety of positions when you apply for jobs. Suppose you are comfortable holding the wheel as you pursue your graduate degree. In that case, MS Management can be a fruitful program for you.
There are plenty of reasons why I would encourage this program to others. However, if I were to choose one reason, it would be that the MS Management program is a flexible academic program that allowed me to pursue my unique interests. So if you happen to have a unique interest, then this program is for you. I highly recommend anyone to pursue this program!
